With recessed floor-to-ceiling windows, multi-story podium design, and mechanical grilles enclosing the rooftop bulkhead, The Brook is downtown Brooklyn’s newest stunning skyscraper.
This project is the perfect example of PureModern’s versatility. We enabled the client to successfully:
Incorporate very large planting systems in an economically efficient way, so that they appear to be one long open planter box system.
Integrate power access on the terrace using discreet outlet installations built directly into the planter design (without compromising aesthetics or escalating costs).
Complement the urban vibe of the surrounding neighborhood, the meticulous interior decor, and luxury resident amenities.
Soften the city views with greenery that creates the perfect juxtaposition between city life and a serene natural oasis.

Custom Solution:
Custom Metal Edging Wall Planters in marine-grade aluminum were powder-coated in metallic grey to create a functional space on this terrace pool deck.
The project, which included edging wall planters and rectangular planters with toe kicks and drainage solutions, had the following customization needs:
Design collaboration. The client envisioned expansive planting systems that would appear as one continuous, open planter box. There were several ways to achieve this look. Given the rooftop setting with unique structural and logistical challenges, we recommended a modular solution: custom planter units fabricated in individual sections. The sections were then delivered and seamlessly bolted together on-site. This approach ensured the visual continuity the client wanted while allowing for easier transport, installation, and long-term performance on the rooftop.
Glass railing connection. After consulting an engineer, we discovered the planter walls needed to be reinforced for the glass attachment. To achieve the required strength capacities, we determined that the best option would be to use aluminum tubes. Based on gusset plate dimensions, we optimized the weld size of the tubes to arrive at the most cost-effective solution.
Outlet boxes. Edging wall planters were customized to include outlet cutouts. Our team then manufactured outlet boxes that were welded onto the edging wall planters. Residents can now charge phones and other devices conveniently from their lounge chairs, using outlets mounted on the custom outlet boxes that blend seamlessly with the planters surrounding the pool.
Quick turnaround times. The client had a tight timeline, but we were able to deliver everything on time and on budget.
Constructed from marine-grade aluminum, the bottomless planters are highly functional and also provide exceptional durability. Our team collaborates closely with architects, designers, and property managers to ensure seamless integration from blueprint to installation.
