Scan Design is an incredible contemporary furniture company with nine showrooms across Florida. Scan Design was founded in 1969 by Danish immigrants Lis and Preben Knudsen.
From its founding, the mission of Scan Design has been clear — deliver dreams through timeless design. This is why we were pleased to work with Scan Design to create custom planters for their Scan Design warehouse and corporate building in Longwood, Florida.
Scan Design contacted PureModern to design a total of 19 custom planters for the front of their corporate building. Scan Design ordered a combination of medium and extra-large fiberglass planters to create additional visual interest to the outside of their building.
To complete the look, Scan Design ordered 13 24”d x 24”h fiberglass planters painted to match Sherwin Williams’ Repose Gray in a matte finish with no drain holes. They also ordered six 48”d x 36”h fiberglass planters with lids and a center hole to accommodate a tree.
These six extra-large planters were also painted to match Sherwin Williams’ Repose Gray in a matte finish with no drain holes. However, the challenge was to create a lid for the planters that would be able to be removed and also allow a tree to grow through the center. We accomplished this by designing a fastened lid for each of the six extra-large planters.
The lids were designed with a 14”d centered hole to create a unique and modern custom planter. One challenge that we faced during this project is figuring out a way to secure the lids onto the base of the planter. Scan Design found a solution by securing the lids with C-clamps and rubber feet and therefore completing the look of these modern, custom planters.
